Voopoo Argus, what the range keeps for its high end
Most vapers know the Argus name through its cartridge pods, the ones shops put at the front of the shelf. Yet the official series page lists sixteen models, and a handful of them aim much higher, with leather, zinc alloy and a rating against water and dust. Within the Voopoo Argus family, what you pay for as you move up is not written on a pod listing. The question is which models deserve that status, and what their claims actually cover.
Voopoo Argus, the high-end models in the range
Five models stand clearly apart from the rest of the Voopoo Argus series. The Argus GT II is a 200 W box mod on two 18650 batteries, the Argus MT a kit with a 3,000 mAh built-in battery and the Argus XT a kit on a single 18650 or 21700. Alongside them sit the Argus Pro, an 80 W pod mod, and the Argus P3, a touch-screen pod.
On the official series page, these five combine a leather and alloy finish with the most advanced features. The first three share the GENE.TT 2.0 chip, four vaping modes and an IP68 rating. Below them, from the Argus G3 to the Argus Pod by way of the Klyc, Z and P1, the catalogue is mostly cartridge pods built for easy handling on the move.
The first-generation Argus GT, capped at 160 W, still appears on the series page. The GT II succeeds it with output raised to 200 W.
Leather and zinc alloy, the material signature of the series
Voopoo applies the same recipe to its most ambitious models. The Argus GT II page lists a leather and zinc alloy body measuring 90 × 54 × 29 mm, and the Argus MT and XT use exactly the same pair of materials, listed at 145 and 148 mm long.
The Argus P3 adds metal to that pairing, at 82 g and 51.35 × 20.7 × 60.7 mm. Its cartridge is still PCTG, a clear plastic common in vaping, but the body itself clearly belongs on the crafted side.
The Argus Pro and Argus X are vaguer. Their page says “alloy + leather” without naming the metal, so they cannot be placed alongside the zinc models with any certainty. For anyone who judges a mod in the hand, that gap is worth noting before buying. Leather paired with metal is a signature other makers have taken further, as Lost Vape’s eighteen Thelema models show.
The GENE.TT 2.0 chip and its four modes
The electronics of the high-end Argus models rest on the GENE.TT 2.0, which Voopoo describes on a dedicated page. It sets power according to the coil it detects and, in temperature control, according to the wire used. Its four modes cover what a classic box mod is expected to do.
Smart, RBA, Turbo and temperature control
In Smart mode, the chip picks the output power by itself. RBA mode, named after rebuildable decks, hands power over to you, from 5 to 200 W on the GT II. Turbo pushes the brand’s TPP coils to their maximum vapour output. Temperature control then handles nickel, titanium and stainless steel, with three custom settings stored in memory.
What the pages put a number on, and what they leave out
For the GENE.TT 2.0, Voopoo quotes a base firing speed of 0.025 seconds, which the chip is said to improve on without a new figure. The Argus Pro page, which uses the previous-generation GENE.TT, claims 0.001 seconds. Without a published test method, the two figures cannot be compared.
Voopoo’s chip page presents separate management of two batteries as a gain in battery life and charging speed, again without a figure. The eight protections listed for the GT II, including overheating, short circuit, overcharge, over-discharge and reverse polarity, do not replace using a married pair of batteries, bought and charged together.
Voopoo Argus and IP68, what the rating really covers
The IP68 rating is the most visible selling point of the GT II, MT and XT. It still needs a careful reading, because on the GT II Voopoo pairs it with a claim the standard does not contain.
The IP code is defined by the international standard IEC 60529. Its first digit, 6, means a device fully protected against dust. The second digit, 8, means a device that can be submerged beyond one metre, under duration and pressure conditions set by the manufacturer. On a Voopoo Argus, those conditions are exactly what is missing, since the product pages give neither a depth nor a duration.
The GT II page also mentions a drop-proof function. Impact resistance, however, is not part of the IP code. It belongs to a separate rating, the IK code, defined by IEC 62262. The drop-proof claim therefore remains the maker’s own statement, with no height or number of drops published. Geekvape, by contrast, puts figures on its own tests, as our reading of the Aegis Legend 5 sets out.
One last point changes the scope of the claim. The official GT II page states that the tank supplied, the MAAT TANK NEW, has not been IP68 certified. Only the box carries the rating, not the assembled kit.
The MAAT TANK NEW and the UK 2 ml limit
The MAAT TANK NEW is fitted to the GT II, the MT and the XT. It pairs stainless steel with Pyrex, measures 26 mm across by 52 mm tall and fills from the top.
Voopoo gives it a 6.5 ml capacity in its standard version and also mentions a 5 ml option. Neither applies in the UK, where refillable tanks are capped at 2 ml and nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml in bottles of 10 ml at most. The 2 ml version is the one sold in the UK, just as the P3’s Snap cartridge holds 2 ml.
The high-end Argus models at a glance
The official pages make it possible to compare the five models on the points that matter for a high-end object. An empty cell means the maker does not give the information.
| Model | Format | Power source | Output | Chip | Materials | IP68 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Argus GT II | Box mod | 2 × 18650 | 5 to 200 W | GENE.TT 2.0 | Leather and zinc alloy | Box only |
| Argus MT | Kit | 3,000 mAh battery | 5 to 100 W | GENE.TT 2.0 | Leather and zinc alloy | Yes |
| Argus XT | Kit | 1 × 18650 or 21700 | 5 to 100 W | GENE.TT 2.0 | Leather and zinc alloy | Yes |
| Argus Pro | Pod mod | 3,000 mAh battery | 5 to 80 W | GENE.TT | Alloy and leather | |
| Argus P3 | Pod | 1,500 mAh battery | 5 to 30 W | Zinc, leather and metal |
For a Voopoo Argus buyer, the table points to three profiles. A vaper who already manages batteries will find the most complete box of the series in the GT II, and a single-battery format in the XT. Anyone who prefers a built-in battery can pick the MT for its IP68 rating or the Argus Pro for its pod mod format. The Argus P3 suits someone after a small, carefully finished object, with its 2.01-inch curved screen, touch controls and side wheel.
FAQ
Five questions the product pages leave open, beyond materials and water resistance.
Which coils fit the MAAT TANK NEW?
Voopoo lists four TPP coils for direct lung vaping. The TPP-DM1 at 0.15 ohm runs from 60 to 80 W, the DM2 at 0.2 ohm from 40 to 60 W, the DM3 at 0.15 ohm from 80 to 100 W and the DM4 at 0.3 ohm from 32 to 40 W. The MT page pairs the tank with the DM2 and DM4, the XT page with the DM2 and DM1.
How do these models charge?
Through a USB-C port in almost every case. The GT II, MT and XT accept 5 V and 3 A, the Argus Pro and Argus P3 5 V and 2 A, with a full charge quoted at 40 minutes for the P3. The Argus X is the exception, with a micro-USB port.
Does the Argus XT take a 21700 battery?
Yes. The XT takes a single battery, either 18650 or 21700, not included. Voopoo states that maximum output reaches 80 to 100 W depending on the format used.
How do you stop it firing in a pocket?
The GT II, MT and XT have a lock Voopoo calls QS, presented as protection against accidental firing. The pages do not describe the button sequence that sets it, so check the manual supplied with the device.
Which cartridge does the Argus P3 use?
The Argus Snap, a 2 ml PCTG cartridge that fills from the top. It comes in 0.4 and 0.7 ohm versions. Its page claims full compatibility between Argus Pod cartridges and the devices in that series, which also opens the P3 to the 2 and 3 ml Top Fill cartridges.
Voopoo Argus, what to take from the top of the range
The top of the series comes down to five models, three of which share leather, zinc alloy, the GENE.TT 2.0 chip and IP68. Their pages are still less precise than their finish. Submersion is not quantified, the drop claim has no published protocol, and the GT II tank is not certified like the box.
Within the Voopoo Argus range, what separates an entry pod from a high-end model has less to do with power than with materials and claimed toughness. That reading applies to any mod that claims premium status, where the finish deserves the same scrutiny as the spec sheet.
